KeymasterBase6 Triad Game
Players: 2-4
Objective: Score the most points by forming matching triads (three-card melds) based on suit and rank.
Setup:
- Shuffle the 78-card Base6 standard deck.
- Deal 10 cards to each player.
- Place the remaining deck face-down as the draw pile.
- Flip the top card of the draw pile face-up to form the discard pile.
Gameplay:
Players take turns in clockwise order. On a turn, a player:
- Draws one card from either:
- The draw pile
- The top of the discard pile
- Plays a triad (optional)
- A triad consists of three cards that match in either:
- Same suit (color)
- Same rank (number/face card)
- Consecutive numbers (runs) of the same suit
- Played face-up in front of the player
- A triad consists of three cards that match in either:
- Discards one card to the discard pile.
Scoring:
- Matching Suit Triad → 15 points
- Matching Rank Triad → 10 points
- Run (three consecutive numbers in the same suit) → 20 points
The round ends when a player uses all their cards or the draw pile is empty. The player with the highest score wins the round.
Strategy Tips:
- Hold onto key cards that block opponents from making triads.
- Discard strategically to avoid giving opponents valuable cards.
- Focus on runs, as they give the highest points.
Gambling Variation:
Players can place bets before the game begins. Each player contributes an equal stake to the pot. The winner of the round takes the full pot. Betting options can include:
- Side bets on the highest single triad score.
- Bonus payouts for forming multiple triads in a turn.
Team-Based Variation:
Players can form teams of two. Teammates share their score totals at the end of the round. Teams may:
- Share information about discards (without revealing specific cards).
- Strategically discard cards that help their teammate form triads.
- Compete against the opposing team for the highest combined score.
