    Base6 Mexican Train Variant

Objective: Be the first player to play all your cards by building off the central hub (the “Engine”) with matching colors, numbers, or wilds. Players build their own personal “train” while also having the option to play on the shared “Mexican Train.”

    Game Details

    • Age Range: 7+
    • Players: 2-6
    • Average Playtime: 30-45 minutes
    • Game Components:
      • Base6 Standard Deck (78 standard cards, 13 wild cards)
      • 1 Die per Player (as a train marker)
      • Starting Engine Card (flipped from the deck)

    Setup

    1. Shuffle the deck and deal 10 cards to each player.
    2. Flip the top card of the deck to determine the Engine Card (starting hub).
    3. Each player takes one die to serve as their train marker.
    4. The remaining cards form a draw deck.
    5. Determine the first player (youngest player or roll a die).

    Gameplay

    • Players take turns extending their train by playing a card that matches the number, color, or wild from the last card on their personal train.
    • If a player cannot play, they draw one card from the deck:
      • If the drawn card is playable, they must play it.
      • If they still cannot play, they place their die next to their last played card, indicating their train is open for others to play on.
    • Players may also play on the Mexican Train, a shared open train that starts from the Engine.
    • Wild cards can be used to continue a train but must be declared.

    Train Rules

    • Personal Trains: Each player builds their own line from the Engine.
    • Open Trains: If a player cannot play and draws, their train is open for others to play on.
    • Mexican Train: A communal train where any player may place a card.
    • Merging Trains: If two trains intersect, players must respect matching number/color rules.
    • Blocking Trains: A Jack card can block a train. Only a King, Queen, or Wild can override it.
    • Bomb Card Removal: Bomb cards remove any card from play, forcing an adjustment.

    Winning

    • The first player to play all their cards wins the round.
    • Points are counted for the remaining cards in other players’ hands:
      • Number cards = Face value
      • J, Q, K = 15 points
      • Aces = 20 points
      • Wild = 25 points
    • The game continues until a player reaches 500 points.

    Variations & Add-ons

    • Speed Play: Reduce hand size to 6 cards.
    • Gambling Mode: Assign point values to make it a betting game.

Enjoy playing Base6 Mexican Train with friends and family! 🚂🎲
