    Objective:

The objective of High Queen is to create one or more hives with your Queen (“Q” card) and strategically advance across the table to your opponent’s hive.
You must use cards of the same suit as your hive Queen or wild cards to progress.
The game ends when a player reaches their opponent’s Queen and defeats it by playing a King (“K” card) of the same suit as their hive Queen or a wild card.

    Game Components:

    • 92 Hexagonal Cards (7 Suits: Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Orange, Wild). Each suit contains the following ranks: Ace (A), 2-10, Jack (J), Queen (Q), King (K)
    • A table (36 to 48 inches across)
    • Optional: 12 Chips (for the gambling variation)

    Players:

    • Number of Players: 2
    • Ages: 12+
    • Playtime: 30-45 minutes

    Setup:

    1. Shuffle the Deck: Thoroughly shuffle the hexagonal cards.
    2. Deal Cards: Each player is dealt 6 cards from the shuffled deck. The remaining cards form the draw pile, placed face down.
    3. Discard Pile: Create space next to the draw pile for the discard pile, which starts empty.
    4. Table Setup: Players sit opposite each other with the table between them. The table should be 36 to 48 inches across.
    5. Starting the Hive(s):
      • Players must start their hive by playing a Queen (“Q” card) from their hand. If a player does not have a Queen in their initial hand, they must discard a card and draw from the deck until they draw a Queen.
      • Once you have a Queen, place it on the table to begin your hive. If you have more than one Queen, you may start multiple hives by placing each Queen separately on the table.
      • Cards are placed on the table by joining them on a flat side, facing the opponent.

    Gameplay:

    1. Turns:
      • On your turn, draw one card from either the draw pile or the top card of the discard pile.
      • You may then play a card from your hand or discard a card face-up into the discard pile.
      • After playing or discarding, you must end your turn with exactly 6 cards in hand.
    2. Building Your Hive(s):
      • You can add cards to your hive(s) by playing cards of the same suit as your hive Queen or wild cards.
      • Cards must be placed adjacent to your hive Queen, gradually extending toward the opponent’s hive.
    3. Advancing Toward the Opponent’s Hive:
      • To move closer to your opponent’s hive, play cards that match the suit of your hive Queen or a wild card.
      • If you reach an opponent’s card, you must play a card of higher rank and matching the suit of your hive Queen or a wild card to continue forward.
    4. Taking the Opponent’s Queen:
      • To defeat an opponent’s Queen and win the game, you must play a King (“K” card) of the same suit as your hive Queen or a wild card.
    5. Jack (J) Cards:
      • Jacks are defensive cards that can block your opponent’s path. To overcome a Jack, your opponent must play a wild card, a Queen, or a King of their suit. Jacks are particularly useful in defending your hive.
    6. End of the Game:
      • The game ends when a player successfully reaches and takes the opponent’s Queen.
      • The player who captures the opponent’s Queen is declared the winner.

    Special Rules:

    • Aces (A): Aces are considered the lowest rank.
    • Kings (K): Kings are “Killer Bees,” the only cards capable of taking an opponent’s Queen.
    • Multiple Hives: Players may start multiple hives if they have more than one Queen in their hand. Each hive operates independently, allowing for diverse strategies in advancing across the table.

    Gambling Variation:

    1. Setup:
      • Each player places 6 chips in front of them at the start of the game.
    2. Winning Chips:
      • When a player reaches the other side of the table, they collect one chip from the opponent.
    3. End of Game:
      • The game continues until all chips are collected by one player or both players agree to end the game.

    Fast Play Variation:

    1. Setup:
      • Remove all the Queens from the deck and shuffle them separately.
      • Deal 3 Queens to each player. The remaining Queens are shuffled back into the draw deck.
    2. Gameplay:
      • Players start with 3 Queens in play. If a player draws a Queen from the deck, they may add it to their hive alongside the other 3 Queens.
      • The rest of the gameplay follows the standard rules.
